Spindles End Table Makeover

This table is kind of an interesting project. My husband and I have this plan in our head how we were going to do with it. But it didn't work out. We were thinking to stained the top with Chestnut finish. And paint the rest and the finials.

We already knew not going to work as soon as we found out that the top wasn't a real wood. It's a veneer. As always we want to experiment and see what happened. Soon enough we learned and take a note is not going to work.

We striped over all the stained and made more work for us. After that we sand paper it for the second time. I picked this blue teal color by Valspar ( Sea Wave Signature).

I painted the whole table except the finials. I put 3 coats of paint. After it dried up, I distressed the edges with sand paper and I spray it with Lacquers to finished it up. Spray paint the finials with bronze color.

I love how it turned out and my orchid really compliment it well. This is the second time to bloom after I have this orchid about more than a year ago. You can read how I grow my orchid here !

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend !!!

Easy Way to Make Pom-Pom

Yesterday I was making a wreath for a Fall decoration. I have lots of yarn that I got for FREE from shopping cart diving, so I made some pom-pom for the wreath. I don't have the tools to make pom-pom. So I used these easy steps to make it. I learned this steps from my Mom way back when I was a teenager.

1. Choose the color you want. I have this brown on hand and it works well for Fall.

2. Wrap the yarn around your 4 fingers ( depending on how big you want ) you may use 3 fingers for a smaller one.

3. Divide into 2 section and wrap it very tight.

4.Cut both ends.

5. Here is your easy to make Pom-pom starting to take shape.

6. Trim around the edges to make it fuller and nice. How easy is that to make a pom-pom.

What easy craft project have you made lately ???

Autumn Wreath ( Made with Goodwill Shirt )

Fall is almost here !! But I still feel the hot summer weather with the humidity in my area !
Despite the hot weather, I'm ready for the Autumn. I'm  starting to decorate my house with Fall stuff. Today I started with the front door wreath.

I reused my Spring/Summer wreath. I took everything off except the fabric wrapper.

I saw this shirt at the Goodwill Auction, the color was orange with leaves pattern. Suddenly, I was thinking to make some kind of Fall project with it. It cost me probably about $.20 or less because was made of silk and very light ( they sell clothes by weight).

I made rosettes out of the fabric, I cut the fabric about 2" wide and 15 " long for each rosette.

I use the same measurement for the ruffles too. I hot glued it inside the wreath. Glued the rosettes and brown pom-pom. I made the pom-pom out of FREE yarn. I will make another post about how I did it. I added some leaves to give it the feel of the season.

This project is very simple and it didn't take much time to do it. Now, I have a beautiful wreath hanging by my door, ready for the beautiful crisp Autumn weather.

Yellow Sunray Mid Century End Table ( Curbside Found )

Happy Friday All !

This table is one those funny stories that will be a treasured memory for this frugal girl. We were on the way to the courthouse and saw this trash sitting on the side of the road. But I didn't say anything to my husband as we were getting close to our appointment. And forgot about it  for about 3 hours since we were busy inside the court. When we came out we drove down the same road again and this curbside trash was still there. You can guess my reaction. I asked my husband to stop the car and turn around. At first, he was not sure about it. Again, he can't say no to his stubborn wife about digging through someone trash. We asked the lady who was cleaning the yard nicely about the trash by her curb side ( we knew they must be FREE : )

I just took the table, basket, and the rod curtain. I was thinking to go wild with this table. I haven't try any bright color before. I went to Home Depot and bought this sample paint by Behr it's called Sunray Yellow. The table still in a very good condition and sturdy. I didn't do lot of work on it. Just sand paper and clean all the hardware.

I put about 3 coats of paint without primer. Basically, I used the whole can of Behr sample. I was so shocked how it turned out. It was so bright just like Sunray :) I spray painted the hardware with bronze color.

After the paint dried I apply clear wax to finished it up and buff it. I took pictures and post it on craigslist to be on the market. And someone already claimed this Happy Sunray table to their house. From this project I learned not to afraid to try something new. And I'm glad I did.

Have a happy Friday All !! Enjoy your weekend and your loved one !!

Things Around Here

Hi All !! Oh my.....is already the 5th day of September !! Where did the time go ?

I hope you have a wonderful day. The weather is getting cool and nice around here.

This past weekend we went to visit one of my husband friends from his childhood in nursing home close to Roanoke, VA. about 3 hours away from us. They went to Christian school together. {No my husband not that old yet so he has friend from his childhood who lives in nursing home:)}.
His name is Jack. His been there for the last 2 months. Before, his mom the one took care of him in their house. But his mom is getting old and not able to do it anymore. He had a car accident 18 years ago and cause  his whole body paralyzed until now.
Sometimes we don't understand why God's allow him to experience this. But one thing I know He is in control in every circumstances of our life. I am so blessed to visit Jack. He is in a very good spirit and knowing that God is in control. He know when the time is come Jesus call him home he will be in the better place and happiest place ever. He ask my husband to pray with him before we left the nursing home. Please bring him in your prayer.  I took a picture of him and my husband with his permission. {Redskins fan and Cowboys fan:)}

We were thinking to visit Smith Lake Mountain on the way back. But it didn't happen because of the weather. Instead we were stopped by at Farmville, VA. I heard about this place with their furniture and rugs. But never check it out until this past weekend. They have a huge selection of rugs and furniture. With so many different warehouse building.

If you are in the market looking for a rug and live not far from this place. I think you should check it out.

Love this Moroccan style end table. But not sure about the price tag :)

We were not able to visit all the building because they were getting ready to close when we got there. Probably we will make another trip next time.

We took a walk around this small town and exploring what else they have. And had some dinner at Fishin Pig.

I am working on this table that I got from Goodwill auction. I will make another post how it looks after :)
