Easy Purple Tablescape and Egg Shells Vase

Happy Good Friday to you all ! Hope you had a great one. Today, I have been busy to clean my apartment and done some closet organize. In between enjoying Gaither gospel music in background.

I don't host any Easter lunch or dinner at my apartment. My husband and I will go to my brother in laws house after church Easter service for lunch. I still love to have some Easter tablescape for me and my husband to enjoy.

I use eggs shell as a vase and purple silk hydrangea. I was thinking to buy some tulip or roses at first but I tried this hydrangea that I have. To my surprise not too bad after all. I decided to use it, and I have this purple square paper I bought from Michaels as a name place card. I just write down my name and put " He is Risen " for Easter touch under the name.

 This tablescape took me about 10 minutes to get it all together.
Eggs shell that collected, not sure what to do a couple days ago.

Hot glued gun the eggs shell to "long boat glass"  I already have

Finally :)

Hope you all have a wonderful and blessed Easter this Sunday ! He is Risen Alleluya !!

Ulos { Batak Traditional Print }

Ulos is Batak traditional Cloth from Sumatra { Batak people, like myself } you can read here about it. We use this fabric a lots at big celebration like wedding, church, funeral etc.

This fabric is very important in our culture. I myself don't have a lot of this fabric { I wish...I do } I have a couple of them and frame it as my wall art in my living room.

In this modern days we use Ulos more creative ways.

 Love this bag { hopefully I can find one when I visit Sumatra next time }

This is such a beautiful dress on this model lady! { I might ask my Aunt who is a seamstess to make one for myself when I visit her next time}

I'm thinking to make pillow cases or table runner  when I figured out to coordinate it with other decoration in my little apartment.{ This will be next project :)}

Making Wall Art With What You Already Have

I have been thinking what should I do with the frame I bought from Michael's. While they had 90 % off  that time, I got 5 of this frame and I paid for .25 cents each. I have a plan to put them in our spare bedroom.

Finally, today on this rain mix snow day I have the idea. I want to frame something that I don't have to spend money for an art. My idea is to print out a map of Sumatra Island, Virgnia, NYC and a couple of printable art that I found online. These 3 places have a sentimental meaning in my heart that is why I choose them.

Sumatra Island is my hometown. You might familiar with word of Sumatra if you are a Starbucks coffee drinker.

Virginia is my husband hometown, where he was born, grew up and on this State where we got marriage.

NYC, Queens to be exact was the place where I landed in U.S.A 12 years ago. This city has a special chapter in my life story. I met my husband for the first time in this city 6 years ago.

The bird/chevron art I made it with PicMonkey and the other print I download it a while back from some other site and forgot what site was it.

Entryway and Lamp Shade Makeover

Good Morning to you all ! I hope you had a good morning so far, just like I did. I woke up this morning around 8:15, I know for some of you is late. I do this in the weekend when my husband and I don't have any major plan. I had my morning devotion from intouch ministries.

I had my coffee, look around my apartment and my "entryway" { we don't really have one } catch my eyes and start thinking to do something with it.
When I woke up this morning this how it looks.

I did observation what should I do. The lamp need changed, I remembered I have a blue ceramic lamp I got from Goodwill a while back.
Blue lamp without shade

I need to put a new shade on this lamp. I have the shade from the previous lamp with green trim. I have blue ribbon so I glue gun the ribbon to the lamp.

After I glue gun the blue ribbon.

He is Risen for Resurrection Day { I change this print  from time to time }

One more time Before and After

This how it looks after about 15 minutes with glue gun :) Oh yea, this shoes rack was a night stand from our dumpster I painted and polish  it with dark walnut wax.

I hope you'll have a nice weekend and able to make a quick project around your house or just enjoy the blessing of the weekend!

Our Sanctuary {Bedroom}

I like to refer bedroom to sanctuary. According to wikipedia : A sanctuary, in its original meaning, is a sacred place, such as a shrine. By the use of such places as a safe haven, by extension the term has come to be used for any place of safety.

I love our sanctuary that my husband and I share. This is the place we don't share with anyone else. The place we spend about one third of our life. We share memory in this room, pray in this room, etc. I try to decorate it with stuff that very special in our life. This way my husband and I feel the sense of belonging to this room. I decorate it with green-y and brown touch, this is the theme color we picked at our wedding in 2008. { I might change it in the next future }

These are the stuff  we have in our sanctuary and they are very special to us.

Our initial monogram, I printed with Word program.

Our wedding bouquet, I hang dried all the flowers and put it inside the hurricane.

The very first flower arrangement that my best friend then {my husband now} bought me when we were dating. I took a picture of these beautiful roses and the note and frame it.

Andy Griffith Show and Trip to Mount Airy

Did you have a favorite TV show when you were growing up ? I personally didn't have one for a couple of reasons. When I was growing  up we didn't have television, even when we did have televison we didn't have time to watch it. My husband does have one TV show that he continues to watch without fail before he goes to sleep at night. Im sure that you already know the answer "The Andy Griffith Show".

This show has been part of my life for the full 5 years of our marriage. Amazingly, I love this show too for many reasons:

1. I learn lots of morals behind the story of each episode
2. Love the simplicity of the story
3. Love Barney's character although sometimes he drives you crazy
4. Love Opie with his innocense and curiosity

Last summer right after Andy Griffith passed away we made a trip to Mount Airy, NC, the town where the story is based on. I love this little town in the middle of the mountain. This town is so beautiful, charming and friendly ( Southern Hospitality )

Andy Griffith trade mark statue with Opie

My personal Sheriff acting for one day Sheriff :)

I wish we still have all these prices today :)

Andy Griffith's original house where he grew up. They use it  now as a hotel for people who visit Mount Airy.

What show from your childhood do you still treasure ?

Brown Sugar Banana Muffin

Happy Monday ! Hope you all had a great weekend.

We had a great Sunday lunch at my brother in law house after church service. They made pull pork, coleslaw, bake bean and I brougt maccaroni salad and all of them were delicious.

Speaking of food on this rainy day, I have 3 riped banana so I'm thinking making banana muffins.

These all the ingredients I need to make this recipe ( making 12 muffin )

1. 3 riped banana and mashed them
2. 2 cups all purpose flour
3. 1 teaspoon baking soda
4. 1/4 teaspoon salt
5. 1/2 butter
6. 3/4 cup brown sugar
7. 2 eggs
8. 1/4 sour cream
9. Chocolate chips ( optional )

Directions :

1. Preheat oven 350 F. Spray your muffin pan with vegetable spray or baking spray

2. In a large bowl mix all dry ingredients flour, baking soda, and salt

3. Melt butter in microwave. In a separate big bowl beat eggs, brown sugar, add butter mix all together, add sour cream. Add the flour and mix them with fork or spoon. Pour the mix into muffin pan.

4. Put chocolate chips on top if you like chocolate like I do :)

5. Bake them for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center of the muffin comes out clean.

6. Enjoy :)
